MARY'S STORY

“The whole process of participating in the programme has been excellent; I have learned a lot and become increasingly more healthy and active along the way.”

Mary participated in the NHSDPP delivered by Living Well Taking Control (LWTC) in Sandwell, with facilitator Sharon.  Here’s what she had to say about her experience of the programme, as well as Sharon’s thoughts on her progress.

Mary - The whole process of the NHSDPP delivered by LWTC has been excellent; I've been really committed and learned a lot through the weekly group sessions.  I've been on the programme since October 19th 2016 and have become increasingly more healthy and active along the way.  I've been doing a lot more walking, which has been a pleasure, and my husband has been joining me.  After learning about different kinds of health benefits through the sessions, I've been very careful and reduced my salt and sugar intake and started using less oil.  I've stopped frying items of food - I’ve swapped it for baking - and I also eat more fruit and veg which I was having less of before. Sharon has supported me and encouraged me throughout. She even came to my home to deliver the 8 week review which was brilliant because I had an important call I could not cancel. I will carry on with the changes in my lifestyle and really appreciate the support. Thank you Sharon.

Sharon – Mary has been doing well throughout the process of the programme and picked up a lot of good tips which she's added to her lifestyle. Although she has a busy lifestyle, with full-time work and fostering, she's managed to change things for the better. She's not afraid to speak her mind and to let me know if she needs my help. It's been a pleasure working with Mary and I know she will continue to take control of her lifestyle.

Since completing the programme, Mary has continued with the changes to her lifestyle. She is very focused on healthy eating and is making a real effort to eat less fats. She also makes sure that she spends much less time sitting down and that she goes on regular walks.
