SESSION 9: HYDRATION AND IT'S IMPACT - COMPLICATIONS OF BEING DIABETIC

Your Locality Coach will start the session by explaining the benefits of walking for our physical and mental health. You will be able to share how you feel whilst walking and afterwards.

 

Topics in this session include:

  • Hydration and how it impacts the body
     

  • How alcohol affects the body
     

  • Review of step count or activity trackers
     

  • The wider impact diabetes has on lifestyle
     

  • Goal setting – focusing on sustainable outcomes

Sugar in drinks
Your Locality Coach will ask you and fellow participants for suggestions on how to keep hydrated and what to drink. You will learn which drinks contain the most sugars and discover alternatives to reduce your sugar intake. You will also learn about how much sugar different alcoholic drinks contain and the effects they can have on your physical and mental health.

 

Complications of diabetes
Your Locality Coach will then explain some of the potential complications of becoming diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic and how this could impact your life in the short and long term. Along with your fellow participants, you will be asked to discuss how potentially becoming diagnosed as type 2 diabetic could impact your life. This will give everyone a clear motivation for sticking to their set goals.
